LET THE FLOWERS REMIND US 💐

It rains a lot here this time of year. Fairly gloomy and uninspiring. This is what happens as winter turns to spring. As we venture outside, we can be greeted by a cold spring rain and overcast skies. Hard to feel motivated and energetic in that situation. All you want to do is go back to bed.

Life can be like that too. Problems can seem to crop up one after another. Your job can feel like a dead-end. Just like the gloomy sky in our weather example. All you want to do is go back to bed.   Then just when you have no energy or motivation, another problem comes at you out of nowhere. Just like that cold spring rain.

As the season moves along, we start to see a little more of the sun. Before long, the temperature begins to slowly get warmer and one day you wake up and it seems the world has bloomed! Beautiful shapes and colors fill the land where once there was the gray drab of winter remained.

To people like my good friend Shannon, who loves plants, this must seem like heaven. To me, who hates winter, this feels like freedom after the prison of winter. To Margie, who longer has to put up with me, it must feel like she is free from her own punishment. Seriously, it is a magical time.

Life is also like that. After our rain and gloom, flowers start to bloom. When we look back, we see the rain was necessary for the flowers. Without the rain, they would never bloom. Without facing some of the adversity we face, the joy in our lives may never have bloomed. When we see the spring flowers, let them remind us the rain was necessary.

JUST 1 DEGREE 🌡

While I continue to celebrate ice melting as winter turns to spring, I thought this quote was a great one to meditate on. It is the end of the week. It may have been a tough one. Things in the world are pretty crazy right now. There are lots of lives being turned upside down daily. The temptation to quit has never been greater for many. Sometimes just hanging on can seem like quite a struggle. Change and improvement can see like a far off horizon we cannot even see.

Think of the fact listed above. The shift of just one degree turns water, a liquid, into ice, a solid. One degree transforms it into something else entirely. I have heard this same advice applied to hitting a golf ball. Your swing can seem terribly far off, but if you just make a one millimeter change in the way you hit the ball, after going the distance, your ball will land in an entirely different area. The change is small. The result is huge. Can you see how a slight change in angle can result in an entirely different landing? How one degree can turn a liquid into a solid?

This is true is matter such as water and ice. It is true in golf and the effect of changing your starting angle. Do you know what else it is true in? Life. It can seem like everything around you is collapsing, and it might be. You might still be just one degree, or one millimeter off from a complete transformation of your life. Think of decisions we have made in our own life. Just like our examples above, the change was obvious right away, but given some time and distance, dramatic change will occur. Water takes a bit to freeze after you hit the temperature. That golf ball as to travel after you hit it at the new angle.

Think of decisions you have made. Maybe you decided to quit smoking. The change may not have happened by putting down that last cigarette, but making that decision can radically improve your life. Same with starting a new morning habit like meditation. You may not notice something on the first day, but after a month your days will feel radically different. How about writing in a gratitude journal at night? Once again, the first day may not yield any new results, but by the end of the month your life will be different.

Life may seem very overwhelming at the moment. Don’t give up. You might just be one degree, one millimeter or one decision away from an entirely different life.

WHAT DO YOU SAY? 😟

Last post we talked about sending out messages of love and encouragement. Many people asked the same question, Neil, I would love to send out a message, but what do I say? It seems we are not used to sending out messages like this. It may even seem awkward at first. With practice, it will become easier and your words will become more impactful.

Back to the original question. What do we say in a message of love and encouragement? A good start is to ask yourself what would make you happy to hear from a friend. A safe bet is always gratitude and appreciation. Telling someone how much they mean to you and why is one of the best messages you can deliver.

Above are some examples of inspiring messages you could send. These are just to get you thinking. They can be tailored to your specific person. Another fun idea is to reflect on a fun memory the two of you share. It could be a vacation you took together, a nice dinner you shared or simply a cup of coffee and conversation you enjoyed. Positively reflecting on that could be enjoyable for both of you.

How about you? Do you have any suggestions on good messages to send? By sharing our ideas with each other we inspire a revolution of love and encouragement!

LITTLE THINGS MAKE A BIG DIFFERENCE

I love little messages that make a big difference. Here was the license plate on the car in front of me. What a great reminder to be kind. While we are driving, this can be a vital reminder.

What kind of small things can you think of that would make a big difference? Where are good places to place a message? What are some messages you can think of to share? I would love to hear all your answers in the comments below.

YOU MATTER ALL OF THE TIME ⏰️

Here is a very important message all of us need to see. Yes, you reading this matter. It does not matter if you just accomplished the biggest goal of your life, or just made the biggest mistake of your life. You matter. If you are on top of the world, how you treat others who might not be there yet, or who can do nothing for you can tell a great deal of your character. Plus, how great does it feel when someone you think is further along in life than you, stops to compliment, encourage or help you? I know that makes a world of difference to me. You also serve as an example of how hard work and perseverance pays off. That could really help the determination of others who are struggling.

What about when you are seemingly on the bottom of the world? You may have messed up at work? Perhaps you made a mess of things at home? You certainly matter then. How you manage to treat people when you are hurting or struggling will not only speak volumes about your character, but inspire others. How valued do you feel when you know someone is really hurting but they still go out of their way to be nice or support you? You not only feel really loved, but your opinion of that person goes through the roof. When my beautiful lady still puts together a delicious meal even after a long day of making cakes, it has me loving her, and appreciating her more than ever.

When you are down on your luck, how you pick yourself up, and dust yourself off, can really inspire others. It also happens to be a great jazz song, but that is beside the point. We love reading stories of people who were down on their luck and came back. Why not have your story be one of them. Not only will you inspire those who know and love you, but looking back you may just inspire yourself.

You see, no matter who you are, or where your life is at, you matter. You can make a big difference and you can inspire others and yourself. Never give up. As cliche as it may sound, rock bottom makes a great foundation to build upon. Many great stories started with a very tough beginning. Yours may be the next great story.

KEEP YOUR MOUTH CLOSED! 🙊

Just a quick reminder to speak only truth and to do so diligently. Ask yourself, is what I am now saying truly reflect on who I am and what I wish people to think my character is?

It seems in our modern world people feel compelled to say something. Focus more on quality over quantity. This holds true for everything in life, but especially in our speech. Nobody enjoys being around someone who talks just to hear the sound of their own voice.

A quick parting thought. If you wish never to be thought a fool, speak life, empowerment, and encouragement to all that you encounter. There is always room for words that uplift.

WHAT IS YOUR WORTH?

We are all like this bar of iron. We have so much potential inside of us. What we do with that potential goes a long way to determine our worth. This is why it is so important to do what feeds your soul. You may not be lucky enough to do it for a living, but you can even pursue it on the side as a hobby. What you create and bring to the world will be amazing. When people live with passion, everyone in the world benefits.

Perhaps, like myself, you are in a job that does not make the best use of your talents. What you should do is find a way to put those talents on display. It may cost you some recreation time, and maybe even a little sleep. Let me assure you that the sleep you will get will be far better knowing that you allowed the gift inside you to see the light. It will not only bring you more inner peace, but may also lead to a new, more fulfilling career.

Another thing to be careful of is letting others determine your worth. Some may look at you and believe that you are that bar of iron. Not worth much. Try to limit your exposure to these people. Some can see the horse shoes or even the watch springs inside of you. Meaning, they can see how amazing you are even if you are not there yet. Surround yourself with people who believe in you and see the best in you. That belief may help you push yourself to be the best version of you that you can be.

A WORLD OF DARKNESS😈

Here is something I have been wanting to write for a while. With my crazy life, the opportunity has not presented itself. The world is a crazy place right now. In a minute everything can be turned upside down. Many people are hurting and afraid. That is why what we do here is so important. Secret2anamazinglife.com is not only an online community, but a place to come that is safe and inspiring. My life purpose is to leave the world a better place than I found it. Right now, that is looking a little challenging. What I can do is exactly what the quote above tells us to do.

In my first book, A Happy Life for Busy People, I share the story of what inspired me to begin writing and working on improving myself. I cannot assume that you have read that book. I must say it is a quick and good read. Even has a nice smiley face on the cover. You can pop over to Amazon and order yourself a copy right after you finish reading this. To catch you up to speed, I am going to give you the super abridged version of my story.

After a very bad day that included losing a job, bad home relations and a host of other things, I decided to go for a walk to clear my head. I checked the mail on the way out the door. In there I found my electric bill as well as envelopes asking for charity donations. I did donate them to the recycle bin. One caught my attention however. On it was the quote above, “Better to light a single candle than curse the darkness.” That single quote has taken me on a journey over two decades in the making. It has allowed me to write and publish 3, going on 4, books. I have done my best to light as many candles and inspire as many people as I can.

It sure can feel good to vent and attack the evil we see in the world. It is good to speak up if you see wrong being done. What is even more powerful is to ‘light that candle’. If you see a group of people being persecuted, make sure you go out of the way to make people of that group feel safe and welcome. Worried about what is happening with our planet and the climate? See what actions you can take to help heal our planet. Remember that cursing the darkness does not make the room any brighter, but lighting even one candle does.

As much as we would like to, we cannot change all the ills the world faces. What we can do is make a big difference in the life of one person at a time. Think if you just inspired, encouraged or reassured one person a day. That would be 365 people in a year. Considering what an inspired, empowered or reassured person can then go on to do, the ripple effect could affect a great many more. If we just yell and complain about how terrible things are, we do not help anyone, least of all ourselves. Light candles my friend. When the world is dark, you must be the light.

IF YOU FAIL, CONGRATULATIONS 🎊

I love this quote. All too often, when something does not work out as we planned we can feel so down on ourselves. I’m sure we have all been there. I know I have. You had grand plans and it can feel like not only your plans, but your life, can be headed south.

Still, it would be a great truth to be able to dust ourselves off, look in the mirror, and say, At least I was brave enough to try!” Most people will do anything to mitigate risk in their life. When you do, yes you do decrease your chances of failure. You also decrease your chances of a great victory. More importantly, you eliminate your chance to learn something new!

Failure, if nothing else, is a great education. We learn what doesn’t work and are one step closer to what does. Be proud of your failure my brave souls. At least you had the courage to try!

IF PIZZA CAN 🍕

Let me begin this by saying that I FIRMLY believe cauliflower cannot become pizza. In fact, I feel it is not good for much at all. Personal opinion part now over, let’s get on with the post.

Often you may think you are not cut out for your dreams. Perhaps you may think you just don’t fit in the role you are striving for. I think today’s technology where they make plastic out of plants, and a million other things, it should be evident that you can make anything out of yourself as well.
